Bottle Kiln in Pale Floral Necklace

Floral patterns is something I love, especially where a cute little tulip design too! This pattern is also on a wooden bottle kiln shape which represents the wonderful history of Stoke-on-Trent.

All of my ancestors worked within the pottery industry. My Great-Aunt Nellie worked until she retired at the wonderful Wedgwood. When she retired as a Paintress, Wedgwood allowed her to decorate a plate which she was then gifted. My Mum still has the plate today.

It’s a beautiful white plate with gorgeous pink and purple flowers and a gold trim. It’s this plate and design my great aunt painted which inspired this earring design.

The bottle kiln in pale floral dangle earrings were also seen being worn by a Wedgwood Judge during the semi-final of Channel 4 Love Productions Great Pottery Throw Down!

The necklace is 16 inches in length with a 2 inch extension chain and a lobster clasp and you can choose from either gold or silver plated. The necklace comes in a pink presentation box too.

This necklace is made from wood and then hand painted with a gorgeous mint blue colour and then a rainbow pattern is added. The rainbows are so teeny tiny too!

The studs are 1.5cm with a singular rainbow in the middle. The studs are just large enough to fill your lobe and are super lightweight as they’re also made of wood.

The pieces are hand painted on both sides and then coated in a protective layer of resin which provides that gorgeous clear sheen too. The last photo shows what the necklace looks like when worn.

The matching earrings can be found here.

About the Kilns

There was once approximately 2000 bottle kilns in Stoke-on-Trent. Now only 47 remain.

All of my wonderful Ancestors worked within the pottery industry and my grand-father was a Cod Placer. This meant he was in charge of filling the bottle kilns up with the pottery ready to be fired.

As they were paid for each piece they made successfully, my Grand-father had to make sure each one was placed correctly to ensure it fired correctly.

My Grand-father passed away when I was very young. I would have loved to have spoken to him about his time as a Cod Placer.
