Bottle Kiln in Sage Floral Stud Earrings

Floral patterns are something I love and following the love for the pale floral pattern, I designed a couple of bold floral designs including this bottle kiln in sage floral with lots of gorgeous flowers.  This pattern is on a wooden bottle kiln/ bottle oven shape which represents the wonderful history of Stoke-on-Trent.

This bottle kiln is the stud version of the sage floral. It has been securely attached to a hypoallergenic surgical steel stud and it will come with a metal butterfly clasp and a rubber stopper.

All of my ancestors worked within the pottery industry. My Great-Aunt Nellie worked until she retired at the wonderful Wedgwood. When she retired as a Paintress, Wedgwood allowed her to decorate a plate which she was then gifted. My Mum still has the plate today.

A version of this bottle kiln/ bottle oven were also seen being worn by a Wedgwood Judge during the 2022 semi-final of Channel 4 Love Productions Great Pottery Throw Down!

Bottle Kilns / Bottle Ovens have become one of my bestsellers and it is what I’m known for! You can find more designs and more jewellery and accessories with a Stoke-on-Trent theme, here.

Each item of jewellery at Wear It Quirky are made, packaged and shipped from Stoke-on-Trent; the heart of the Potteries! More specifically, the entire process takes place in my garage-come-craft-studio.

The jewellery is therefore designed and made entirely by hand by me, Victoria, making every single pair unique and truly special. I share lots of behind the scenes of the quirky process on Instagram and Facebook.

Please note because the jewellery is handmade, there may be slight differences from one to the other and sometimes, some slight imperfections.

About the Kilns

There was once approximately 2000 bottle kilns in Stoke-on-Trent. Now only 47 remain.

All of my wonderful Ancestors worked within the pottery industry and my grand-father was a Cod Placer. This meant he was in charge of filling the bottle kilns up with the pottery ready to be fired.

As they were paid for each piece they made successfully, my Grand-father had to make sure each one was placed correctly to ensure it fired correctly.

My Grand-father passed away when I was very young. I would have loved to have spoken to him about his time as a Cod Placer.

The kiln featured in the photos for these earrings is from the wonderful Middleport Pottery.
